i took the bike out for the first time yesterday after doing the complete flapper mod. im now getting a fi light. i dont have a service manual so i dont know what it is.

its 3 long and 5 short flashes.
did you get rid of the solenoids that were right in front of the diaphrams? or did you unplug them? i'd say they are the reason behind the code. i left mine plugged in and just plugged the hoses that went to the diaphrams; no check engine light here. i was afraid to mess with them for that very reason

EGCA Malfunction
Loose or poor contact of the EGCA connector
ECV or it's circuitry malfunction
EGCA lock
Hope that helps

I took off the screen on the air filter. as far as the flapper, i removed:
Both diaphrams
Both flapper doors
Capped off the hoses
left the soilinods and wiring. = no codes and a very very smooth bottom end.

So their is a noticable smoothness difference after taking the flappers out ?
Or is that the only reason for this mod ?

With this bike (the 08) and with my 04, stock there was a lil hesitation off the line. After the flapper mod it smoothed out considerably. Makes launching the bike a lil more pleasent/easier.

Hey Rekloose,
you got a larger pic of the bike in you avatar??? I'm liking that color scheme.

thanks. its 3 long and 4 short. i looked in my 600 manual and its code is the same. i had removed the exhaust to install the shock so off the servo came. when i pulled the exhaust the cable pulled loose on the servo somehow. it was bound up under it the servo. disconnected the cable and no more mil light.
so removing the flapper solenoids didn't cause any harm? i guess i coulda unplugged them just to see

no. the mil light caught me off guard because it shouldnt.

removing everything up to the headlight harness is fine.

if you are planning on installing any type of hid's you will have to remove everything.
sweet, thanks! now i can ditch all that crap up there. that would make a dandy spot to put some ballasts

The screen just pops off the back of the filter, seems all honda bikes come with that screen on the stock filter-there are usally small gains to be had from removing them sooo.....

When you pull back the panel and expose the diaphrams there is a vacuum hose attached to it. Cap that, with say a screw large enough to thread itself in the end of the hose and not come loose, then remove the diaphram completly. There is a solinoid (sp) in front of both diaphrams (one on each ram air tube), leave those where they are for fear of an FI code.

If you need further pic's or explaination just let me know, I'll check back off and on to see how your doing.

you can remove all the flapper stuff. my mil ligt was because of the exhaust. nothing to do with the flapper. you will be good to go!!

Oh, well on that note-pull all that shit out. Guess I'm going BACK to the garage.
Hey Brad, did you have to remove the upper to get the canister from under the cluster??

NOt looking forward to pulling that off. I'll pull off the solinoids and leave the rest for another day. Seems like I might as well pull everything off and leave it off.
